Diversity statement

In this diversity statement, I address multiple aspects of how my values and experiences advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in my teaching, research, and service to the university and the community. Growing up queer in South America was a constant challenge; then moving to the Deep South of the United States to pursue my doctoral education has also made me reflect on the never-ending struggles for equality and respect, especially concerning the LGTBQ+ community in these spaces. Therefore, in this statement, I provide a personal viewpoint from a Latino gay man on diversity issues in academia and beyond, and how my intersecting social identities help me advocate for the advancement of equity, inclusivity, and belonging.
